Gain a heightened awareness and education about what really goes on when policy-setting decisions are made.
POLICY & POWER gives insight into the structures of city and county governments and presents real-world public leadership examples from a variety of speakers, all facilitated by former County of San Diego CAO and former City of San Diego interim COO, Walt Ekard.
WHAT: Learn about the ins and outs of public leadership strategies. How important is persuasion in the public sector? How does the process of lobbying influence outcomes? This two-day program will provide you with a heightened awareness and education about what really goes on when policy-setting decisions are made.
Walt Ekard, San Diego County’s Chief Administrative Officer from 1999 to 2012 and former City of San Diego’s interim Chief Operations Officer, will lay the foundation: the structures of city and county governments, how each works, and whom each serves. Guest speakers will build on that foundation by providing real-world public-sector examples based on their personal experiences in areas such as business, media and the tribal communities.
WHO: POLICY & POWER: How Decisions Are Really Made is a must for anyone interested in a greater understanding of public leadership. The program, open to LEAD San Diego graduates and other individuals, is limited to 25 participants.
WHEN: The inaugural POLICY & POWER: How Decisions Are Really Made program will take place February 24 & 25, 2016
WHERE: The Ultimate Skybox at DiamondView Tower, 350 10th Avenue, San Diego CA 92101
